Folk
Fusion: Classical, Jazz, Celtic
& Folk music
Biography
Since
1990, the husband & wife team of Tom
& Laurie Reese have fused their
diverse backgrounds into a unique duo. Their eclectic
style combines
elements of classical, jazz, celtic &
folk music and creates a new
sound, dubbed "Folk Fusion".
Take
A
high level of musicianship and combine it with a
strong creative urge, MuZette takes
flight into musical fantasy. This
combination of an award-winning composer
& a classically trained cellist
engages audiences of all ages.
Their
repertoire includes standards in jazz,
classical, celtic & folk music
in addition to originals. They have produced
several award-winning CD’s, including a
2004 recording of their duo work, titled
"An Early Snow".
Improvisation
is key to their performances. Tom's
background is in jazz; Laurie has a
master's degree in classical cello
performance. Combining their different
musical backgrounds has led to a wide
circle of performance opportunities. Traditional
Irish & celtic tunes proved to be the
initial meeting ground between Tom's jazz
experience and Laurie's classical
training.
Not wanting to abandon
their individual musical roots, however,
Tom & Laurie each pursued their own
voices, leading them to create several
more ensembles. Each ensemble is
unique, performing standards as well as
originals. They collaborate with
an exciting group of musicians, including
The Reese Project (jazz), Susquehanna
(classical) & Wyndfall (folk
& folk rock music).
Tom
& Laurie perform for young &
old alike, at festivals, art
galleries, wineries, retirement centers,
libraries & more. They also
provide background music for company
receptions, anniversary parties, holiday
gatherings or other events. A
lecture/demo can be added to any concert
or performance. They have played
throughout Pennsylvania & in Maryland,
upstate New York, New York City, Canada,
Kansas City, Tulsa, Wisconsin, New Jersey,
Florida & more.
"we
were entertained by a most charming duo,
MuZette. They played beautiful music,
shared a lot of background on their
education, their music, their meeting and
marriage and their life of making
beautiful music together. Both of them
were so gracious and entertaining in their
discussions and sharing with the Senior
Citizens. If you were not present,
you missed an excellent program."
